Performance Indicators
The National TB Program Objectives reflect national TB prevention and control priorities in the United States and are agreed upon by CDC and the federally funded TB programs. Indicators are measures developed to assess program progress toward the National TB Program Objectives.
The National Tuberculosis Indicators Project (NTIP) is a web-based performance monitoring tool that was developed to provide TB programs with indicator reports describing the program's progress on the National TB Objectives.
The CDC has a website outlining all of the National TB Objectives.
The indicators are used to not only monitor Virginia's program performance, but also to conduct cohort review. A cohort is a group of cases counted during a specified period of time. In Virginia, once we identify a cohort of cases, we conduct a focused review of a set of indicators. This is a group process that provides learning opportunities and ultimately is meant to improve program performance. Our cohort review focuses on the NTIP indicators for case management, contact investigations and the examination of immigrants and refugees.
