ED Visits for Drug Overdose

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) monitors overdose emergency department (ED) visits using data reported by hospitals and freestanding EDs in Virginia. Data are for Virginia residents only. The data provide information on health trends rather than exact numbers of overdoses in the community. You are encouraged to learn more about syndromic surveillance, including its limitations, before using the data.
