Roanoke City & Alleghany Health Districts to
Open Community Testing Center at Valley View Mall
(ROANOKE, Va.) – The Roanoke City & Alleghany Health Districts (RCAHD) today announced that a Community Testing Center (CTC) at Valley View Mall will open Thursday, January 20 to provide free Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing for COVID-19 to increase testing access in response to public demand.
The CTC will operate by appointment only and will be open from 9am to 5:30pm, Monday through Thursday. To find an appointment, visit vase.vdh.virginia.gov/testingappointment. Appointments will typically be released 24 hours ahead of each day’s event.
CTC test results will be automatically sent via text or email message to individuals being tested, usually within a few days, based on the information provided in the appointment system. PCR test results are very effective in detecting an active COVID-19 infection, even if asymptomatic.
The Valley View Testing Center site is a welcome addition to RCAHD’s existing local community testing events, all of which will be appointment-only events going forward. Other RCAHD community testing events this week include Clifton Forge on January 19, as well as at Fincastle Baptist Church on Thursday, January 20. RCAHD will announce future testing opportunities on its website (vdh.virginia.gov/roanoke/covid-19-testing-locations/) throughout the month of January.
In keeping with VDH policy statewide, news media are not permitted inside any CTC during regular hours to ensure patient privacy. Arrangements must be made 24 hours in advance with the RCAHD communications officer to tour a CTC outside regular hours. Tours will be escorted by a PIO. No exceptions will be made.
