Richmond and Henrico Health Districts Celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month in August 2024

Last Updated: August 13, 2024

RICHMOND, VA – Richmond and Henrico Health Districts (RHHD) celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) by highlighting the importance of immunization and encouraging people to make immunization appointments with their primary care physician, with RHHD, or with a community partner.

“Vaccines continue to be one of the best ways to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities from some very serious diseases,” said Richmond and Henrico Health Districts Director Elaine Perry, M.D. “That’s why it’s so important to stay up to date with all recommended vaccines, regardless of your age. As we enter respiratory virus season this fall, we encourage folks to receive the latest flu and COVID-19 vaccines when they become available. These vaccines are safe, effective, and you can receive both at a single appointment.”

Individuals and families can visit rhhd.gov/connect-pc to find a local primary care provider. Virginia Vaccines for Children (VVFC) providers offer free immunizations to children (younger than 19 years of age) who are uninsured or underinsured; Medicaid-eligible or Medicaid-enrolled; and/or American Indian or Alaska Native. Families can search for a VVFC provider near them using rhhd.gov/vfc. Virginia Vaccines for Adults (VVFA) providers offer free immunizations to adults who are uninsured or underinsured. People receiving VVFA immunizations may be required to pay an admin fee, usually between $10 and $20. Adults can search for a VVFA provider near them using rhhd.gov/vfa.

RHHD offers immunization appointments for children and adults at its Cary Street, Henrico East, and Henrico West clinics. People can call (804) 205-3501 to make an appointment. Bilingual-in-Spanish staff is available at all locations.
