Vaccines ahead: RHHD prepares to add RSV to immunization clinics

Starting in January, RHHD will add RSV vaccines to our immunization clinics!

Who’s eligible?

Pregnant people at 32 through 36 weeks of pregnancy and those who are 60 and older. RHHD will make the vaccine available for people who are insured, underinsured, or uninsured.

Why should I get it?

RSV is a highly contagious virus that causes respiratory infections. Very young infants, premature babies, young children with lung or heart diseases, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at increased risk of serious illness. RHHD Nurse Supervisor Joanna Cirillo says, “These vaccines not only help the most vulnerable to stay protected, but they also benefit all of us by reducing demand on our hospital and healthcare resources. If a pregnant person gets vaccinated, their infant will be protected from RSV.”

How do I schedule my appointment?

You can call 804-205-3501 to set up an appointment at an RHHD clinic. RHHD vaccination appointments will start in January—on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 400 E. Cary St., and on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and 1400 N. Laburnum Ave. Appointments will remain available through the winter months.

If you have questions about the vaccine or other opportunities for vaccination, speak with your healthcare provider.
