On August 7, RHHD joined several community partners for Knock One Out of the Park for Breastfeeding 2024! In honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Week, RHHD and other local organizations tabled at The Diamond to share about the benefits of breastfeeding and the resources available to those considering or trying it. Some of the other community partners included The Diverse BirthUrban Baby Beginnings, and Birth in Color. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a night of baseball.

Kirsten Olsen with West End Midwifery shared some insight into what she recommends for expecting parents. “Plan your postpartum care while you’re still pregnant if you can. Get information before your baby isn’t feeding well. You can even do research on what formula you’d be comfortable using if breastfeeding is not working.”

Kirsten says that learning how to breastfeed can be a frustrating and emotional experience, but support can make all the difference in the world. Exploring options for feeding your newborn while pregnant will help you navigate any breastfeeding challenges post birth. Connect to support with RHHD’s Maternity Navigation team or by calling 804-205-3501.
