The Prevention and Health Promotion (PHP) Epidemiology team has expertise in epidemiology and evaluation. The team conducts surveillance, data collection, data analysis, and interpretation for prevention and health promotion programs in the Office of Family Health Services. These programs include chronic disease (e.g. arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, stroke), tobacco use, injury and violence (e.g. firearm injury, self-harm, sexual violence, substance use and drug overdose). The team also performs evaluations to assess the impact of public health programs and inform policy changes.
The PHP Epidemiology team uses a variety of population-based data to measure the burden of health conditions and injuries among Virginia populations and to identify health disparities.
Mission Statement: To utilize data to collaborate, inspire, and create change through prevention and health promotion programs for all Virginians.
