DANVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Department of Health’s Pittsylvania-Danville Health District will return to the local farmers’ market this weekend to distribute at-home COVID-19 test kits free of charge. A limit of two test kits per person will be available to adults 18 and older on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The free rapid at-home test kits will be distributed Saturday, March 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Danville Farmers’ Market, 629 Craghead St.
VDH recommends that following people perform a test for COVID-19:
- People who have symptoms of COVID-19
- People who have come into close contact with someone with COVID-19 should be tested to check for infection at least five days after they last had close contact with someone with COVID-19. The date of the last close contact is considered Day 0
- People not fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine who are prioritized for expanded community screening for COVID-19
- People not fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine who have been asked to get testing or referred by their school, workplace, healthcare provider, state, tribal, local or territorial health department
Testing is a critical component for slowing the transmission of COVID-19 and should be administered when you have symptoms, have been exposed to someone with the coronavirus, or before you travel or gather in large groups. It is proven to be an effective method to help decrease spread through preventing further infections.
