Portsmouth Health Department, Portsmouth Medical Reserve Corps to conduct Door-to-Door Community Health Survey September 24-26
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Portsmouth residents may get a knock on the door September 24, 25, or 26 and be asked to participate in a city-wide health survey. The Portsmouth Health Department will team up with the Portsmouth Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) to conduct the fifth Community Health Survey (CHS) since 2017. The survey will gather information on the health and quality of life for Portsmouth residents. nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, mental health literacy, teen pregnancy, infant mortality, perceptions of and access to care.
The CHS allows public health officials and other community organizations to collect valuable neighborhood level data that will help prioritize the Portsmouth Health Department’s areas of focus for future programs that would best improve the health of Portsmouth citizens.
“The Portsmouth Health Department is committed to understanding our community health needs by asking residents about their physical, mental and social wellbeing. The information we gather is both timely and accurate, allowing us to quickly respond to the changing needs of the community.” said Michelle Winz, MPH, epidemiologist of the Portsmouth Health Department.
Teams will be clearly identified by dark blue vests with “Health Department” written on the back and identification badges and will be in neighborhoods between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Identification badges will be from the following organizations: Virginia Department of Health (VDH), Portsmouth Health Department (PHD), or the Portsmouth Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). Every ID will have a picture of the employee/volunteer. The 40 neighborhoods that will be surveyed were selected randomly using a standardized method that has been used previously where surveys were conducted.
