Emergency Preparedness

The mission of the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R) is to promote community resilience through fostering whole of community partnerships to proactively prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazards events that may negatively impact the public's health. Emergency Preparedness and Response Programs have been established to respond to any emergency impacting public health through:

  • preparation
  • collaboration
  • education
  • rapid intervention

Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps

The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps is a cadre of volunteer health care professionals and community lay members trained to respond and assist with public health events in the 13 counties and three cities that comprise southwestern Virginia.  The Medical Reserve Corps is celebrating its 20th anniversary with more than 200,000 national volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities.  MRC volunteers step up to keep their family, friends and neighbors safe and healthy.

The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps serves the Mount Rogers Health District, as well as the Lenowisco and Cumberland Plateau Health Districts.
