Free Testing for Private Wells
The Mount Rogers Health District is offering free private well test kits to residents in the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Washington, and Wythe whose wells have been impacted by recent flooding. Any well that was submerged in the storm is likely to be contaminated.
How to get your free kit:
- Well must be disinfected and flushed; VDH recommends having a well driller assist with this process.
- Once disinfected and flushed, users can request a free kit by calling the VDH Call Center (877-829-4682), Mon.-Fri. 8a.m.-5p.m. or by completing the online survey. Test kits are also available at the Hurricane Helene Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC). Find your closest DRC by using the FEMA DRC locater.
Test must be returned Monday through Thursday to the nearest Hurricane Helene Disaster Recovery Center or local health department. Samples should be delivered to one of the available locations by 4p.m. on the same day the sample is taken.
