Eligibility for Receiving Community Health Services:
Community Health Services are available to all residents of the Lord Fairfax Health District (the City of Winchester and the Counties of Clarke, Frederick, Page, Shenandoah and Warren). Services are either free, provided for a low fee (called a “flat fee”), or available on a sliding fee scale. Sliding fee scale services are available free or a decreased cost to low-income persons who provide proof of their income status. This proof of income can include, for example, pay stubs, letters of support, or a Medicaid card. Call your health department for details. Services available for free to anyone include all immunizations required for school entry, communicable disease investigations, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, public health education and H.I.V. testing.
Clinical Services
Clinical Services such as Childhood, Adolescent, and Adult Immunizations, Tuberculosis Screening, Pregnancy Testing, HIV Testing, Blood Pressure Evaluation, and Sexually Transmitted Infection testing are offered Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. by appointment. Child Health Services
School Physicals, including Pre-school physicals, are available by appointment.
Family Planning & Women’s Health
Services include annual adolescent and women’s health examinations, pap smears as indicated, birth control methods, and counseling, testing, diagnosis, treatment, and partner follow up for persons with sexually transmitted infections.
Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing
Counseling, testing, diagnosis, treatment, and partner follow up for persons with sexually transmitted infections.
Tuberculosis Risk Assessment & Control
A low-cost assessment for tuberculosis infection with arrangements for skin testing and/or chest x-ray if indicated. This provides schools and employers with documentation concerning tuberculosis status.
We provide diagnosis, treatment and follow up of patients that are suspected of having active tuberculosis and any person that has been in direct contact with an active case of tuberculosis. The health department serves as a medical consultant to private providers seeking guidance on diagnosis and treatment of patients with latent tuberculosis.
Public Health Nursing
Public health nurses who are currently licensed registered nurses in the State of Virginia provide visits in the home, office, schools, or community for teaching, assessing patients, follow up with doctor’s recommendations, and giving presentations in different aspects of health and health department services. They work with and refer patients to other community agencies.
Medicaid Screening (EPSDT)
Medicaid recipients up to age eighteen can receive routine physical examinations and screenings at their local health department.
