Hospitals

State law requires that all general hospitals and outpatient surgical hospitals obtain a license to provide health care services, unless specifically exempted by Va. Code § 32.1-124.  There are more than 150 inpatient hospitals and outpatient surgical hospitals located throughout Virginia. In addition, nearly all hospitals are certified for federal reimbursement under Medicare and Medicaid.

Hospitals are required to be inspected every 2 years under state licensure and surveyed as assigned by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for certification.
