This year’s theme, “MovingMountains: Forging a New Traffic Safety Landscape,” speaks to important andcritical challenges we face as we emerge from a year of pandemic-related restrictionsthat changed the way people work, interact and travel.
General sessions will consider the rise in speedingduring the pandemic, the need to improve equity in traffic enforcement andhow states, law enforcement and first responders can prepare for automatedvehicles. Breakout workshops will examine timely traffic safety issues such asimpaired driving, speeding, pedestrian safety, equitable enforcement andfederal highway safety efforts. Other Notes: This Summit will bring together industryleaders, scientists, educators, safety professionals, and law enforcement toshare ideas, gather information, learn about best practices and forge solutionsfor distracted driving. The goal will be for all attendees to return to theircommunities with fresh ideas and reasonable solutions for the distracteddriving issues in their area. A tandem goal will be for organizers to gatherinformation and knowledge on issues and roadblocks throughout Virginia in orderto build upon existing programs and design better educational opportunities forthe future.
Sessions will cover a variety of topics including thetechnology being developed to curb distracted driving, best corporate practicesfrom across the nation, what the research tells us, teen driver issues, lawenforcement efforts, and how to ultimately change behavior.
