In a recent customer survey, MDOT learnedthat, although few Marylanders can walk to work, those who do cite healthbenefits as their primary motivation. Whether it is a quick trip to a local destination, a sidewalk stroll ina local park, or a hike along one of Maryland’s trails, many groups are workingto provide safe and equitable access to healthy walking opportunities.
Speakers from AARP, the Maryland Department of Health, andthe founder of Walk with a Doc will discuss how to develop and deliverinnovative planning and programming to support healthy walk activities.

Federal surface transportation funding expires on September30, 2021. What happens next? The Senate and House have each passed versions ofsurface transportation reauthorization, but as of mid-September, there is notyet a bill headed to President Biden’s desk. We are optimistic that Congresswill pass surface transportation reauthorization, but there are other potentialoutcomes, including a short-term extension or a lapse in funding. Join us onOctober 14, 2021 to learn what happened and what it means for federal fundingfor Safe Routes to School, walking, and bicycling. If surface transportationspending is reauthorized, you can expect to hear what changes will take effectand how to take advantage of new funding opportunities.
