Adult coverage has routinely included only assessment of influenza and pneumococcal vaccination coverage rates for adults over the age of 65. More recently, influenza and Tdap vaccine data for all adults over the age of 18 years has been added as well as assessment of herpes zoster (shingles) vaccine coverage for adults over the age of 60. Several systems are available that provide adult coverage data:
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
BRFSS is a telephone survey conducted by each State Health Department with technical assistance from CDC. The survey collects information on various health behaviors and risk factors for disease, including adult vaccinations. Using random-digit dialing, each state selects a random sample of its non-institutionalized adults older than 18 years of age who have a cell or landline telephone. Here are sample data from this system for Virginia, 2009-2014. For more information on BRFSS, click here (http://www.cdc.gov/brfss/). FluVaxView
FluvVaxView assesses influenza vaccination coverage among individuals 6 months of age and older. The FluVaxView website has tools such as trend reports, comparison tables and interactive maps that can be used to compare Virginia’s influenza vaccination rates to other states. Data in FluVaxView come from a variety of sources including the National Health Information Survey (NHIS), BRFSS, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), the Minimum Data Set (MDS), and internet panel surveys. Here are adult influenza coverage data for Virginia, 2010-2014. For more information on FluVaxView, click here: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/fluvaxview/interactive.htm
AdultVaxView
AdultVaxView provides information about pneumococcal vaccination coverage, Td and Tdap vaccination coverage, and shingles vaccination using tools such as trend reports, comparison tables and interaction maps. These tools can be used to compare Virginia’s coverage rates to other states. Data come primarily from BRFSS. Here are representative data for Tdap and shingles vaccines.
