How to be Certified

You have two pathways to obtain State Certification:

Pathway 1

  • Complete the required 60 hours of training on the education and training topics listed here. All training must be provided by an approved Doula Training Entity listed here. Be sure to keep all your training certificates.
  • Fill out the State-Certified Doula Application. When completing the application, indicate that you are applying for State Certification under Pathway 1. Fill out the entire application, notarize it, and submit it to VCB along with the required $100 fee. The application must include all required documents.
  • Submitted applications can take up to 10 business days for VCB to process. If any information is missing from your application, VCB will email you.
  • Once approved, you will receive an email notification, and a certificate will mailed to you within 10 business days.
  • Once approved, you will be automatically listed on the public-facing State-Certified Doula Registry.

Pathway 2

  • Pathway 2 is for State-Certified Doulas who completed some training on the education and training topics listed here within three years prior to January 6, 2022, but have not completed the entire 60 hours.
