VDH Public Aquatic Facility Policy Analysis

Public pools, hot tubs, splash pads, water slides, lazy rivers, and other aquatic venues are a fun way for Virginians to enjoy the water and get some exercise. However, public pools and aquatic venues can also present dangers to bathers, such as injury, drownings, and recreational water illnesses.

In response to these concerns, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) conducted an agency review of the public pool policy in Virginia. The Agency Review and Recommendation to Address Illness, Injury, and Death Prevention at Public Aquatic Facilities was released in 2023 and is available for review.
