The Virginia Office of EMS requires, through regulation, that all training programs which lead to an initial certification at the Advanced EMT level be accredited by the Office of EMS.
In order to provide enough time for instructors, training centers and other educational institutions to plan appropriately for the accreditation of Advanced EMT programs, the Office has created this page available to Education Coordinators and/or colleges & universities.
Initial accreditation for Advanced EMT training programs/institutions will be coordinated and administered through the Office of EMS. Programs seeking to offer training at the Advanced EMT level must complete an Institutional Self Study for Advanced EMT Programs in Virginia. This document can be downloaded below.
Initial grants of accreditation at the Advanced EMT level are for a maximum of five (5) years—a one-year Letter of Review is granted to new programs pending a follow-up review of the program before a full grant of accreditation will be awarded.
