Not sure how to use your safety seat? Want to make sure it is installed correctly? The Safety Seat Check Station program provides hands-on education for using safety seats. Education is available from certified technicians for free.
The safety seat check is hands-on and takes 20-30 minutes. Participants will complete a form to provide information about their seat and child. The safety seat is checked for fit to your child, expiration date, and recalls. Education is provided for how to install the safety seat and use the harness.
To ensure that you have the best experience, here is how you should prepare:
- If expecting, schedule an appointment 1 to 2 months before to your due date. Many agencies schedule appointments several weeks in advance and some moms deliver early.
- Please try to bring your child with you or know your child's weight and height.
- Install the safety seat as best as you can before your appointment. Use the safety seat instructions and vehicle owner's manual to do this. Please bring both manuals to your appointment.
REMOTE SEAT CHECK
Looking for a safety seat check but do not see a location near you? Remote safety seat checks by video call are available for select areas of Virginia. Areas include counties that do not have a Safety Seat Check Station or are a long drive to a town with a Safety Seat Check Station. If you live in an area without a check station or think you qualify, complete the request form.
