Child Passenger Safety Program

WHAT IS THE CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY PROGRAM?

This program provides education on proper car seat installment and child positioning. Convertible and booster seats are available for eligible participants.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

To be eligible for a car seat, you must:

  • Live in the Central Virginia Health District (including Lynchburg City and Amherst, Appommattox, Bedford and Campbell Counties)
  • Receive WIC and/or Medicaid or meet certain income criteria.

Individuals may apply for a seat during their last trimester of pregnancy or if they have a child under 8 years of age.

IS THERE A COST?

No, but you must attend the 90-minute class to receive a free car seat.

HOW DO I SEE IF I QUALIFY AND SIGN UP FOR A CLASS?

Come to any of our health department locations, complete an application and provide proof of WIC or Medicaid eligibility. If you do not receive either, you may provide proof of income to determine eligibility. Qualifying applicants will be contacted regarding attending the next available class. Please be aware, there may be a waiting list.
