BRHD Community Health Workers (CHW) Program

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are an integral part of Public Health 3.0 (Public Health 3.0: A Call to Action for Public Health to Meet the Challenges of the 21st Century), where cross-sector collaboration is utilized to combat inequity and build healthy communities. By identifying barriers to care and bridging the gap between services locally, BRHD’s CHW team is putting the pedal to the metal for a new & improved public health system!

We have 5 CHWs, 2 are bilingual Spanish speakers.  Check back on this page to find out more about our CHW team and upcoming events.

COVID-19 Rapid Test Kit Distribution & Toy Drive Events

BRHD’s CHWs are hosting their annual toy drives and at-home COVID-19 test kit giveaway events in each of our District’s counties. 

Each health department location will host a month-long toy drive during November. Each office will have their own donation box and accept unopened toys only. Test kit giveaway events will take place in the location’s parking lot – look for our mobile health unit in the parking lot! We will give out four free at-home COVID-19 test kits per person. Everyone is welcome! Check out the full schedule below:

 

CHW Office Hours

BRHD CHWs will host Office Hours twice a month during September through December. Stop by to meet with your county’s CHW one on one. No appointments needed! Some of the services offered during Office Hours include:  

  • Health education
  • Referrals to local resources and programs
  • Free portable cribs and car/booster seats (eligibility required)
  • And more!

Albemarle County:
