COVID-19 Information & Resources

COVID-19 Vaccines

The Centers for Disease and Control (CDC) recommend the 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 6 months and older. Find the latest vaccine schedule on the CDC’s Stay Up to Date with COVID-19 Vaccines webpage. Learn more about the COVID-19 vaccines and frequently asked questions on the VDH COVID-19 Vaccine webpage.

BRHD offers the latest 2023 formula of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 6 months and older during routine immunizations clinics. Vaccines are by appointment only- no walk-ins. Uninsured children are eligible for reduced cost vaccination. For more information on costs and how to make an appointment, visit our Immunizations page. To find additional COVID-19 vaccine providers, use the CDC’s COVID-19 Vaccine search portal to look for clinics, pharmacies, and other locations offering COVID-19 vaccines near you.

COVID-19 Testing

There are currently no COVID-19 testing sites being offered by BRHD. See the resources below for COVID-19 testing. Please note that you can purchase at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits at most pharmacies and grocery stores.

Have COVID-19 test kits at home? Check the expiration dates before using. The FDA approved expiration extensions for some test kits after manufacturers provided data proving the shelf-life extends past the printed expiration date. For more information about how the expiration date is determined and why it may be extended, visit the CDC’s At-Home COVID-19 Diagnostic Tests: Frequently Asked Questions webpage.

COVID-19 Treatment

While vaccines remain the most effective way to prevent COVID-19 infection, there are also treatments available for those at higher risk who become infected. These treatments may help individuals avoid severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

Visit the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response’s (ASPR) Possible COVID-19 Treatment Options webpage to learn about different types of treatments, eligibility requirements, and patient assistance programs (including ASPR’s Test to Treat Program). For specific health questions, talk to your primary care provider (PCP).

 COVID-19 Data Portal

Effective May 20, 2022, the Blue Ridge Health District retired the local BRHD COVID-19 Data Portal. BRHD maintained a robust local COVID-19 data portal for two years that provided critical data to community members and leaders throughout the pandemic. Local data is essential for public health operations and policymaking and will continue to be made available through the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This change to BRHD Dashboards aligns with VDH’s prior announcement retiring four COVID-19 dashboards and two landing pages. These retirements will streamline the available dashboards, better align with the data presentation of the CDC, and focus efforts on actionable data. Virginia’s vaccination dataset will be archived on the Virginia Open Data Portal.

The CDC Data Tracker dashboard is considered the standard when it comes to tracking COVID-19 transmission at a county, state, and nation-wide level.

*Local data for BRHD will remain available on VDH COVID-19 Data Dashboards. Download this Guide to VDH COVID-19 Data Dashboards for access to VDH dashboard links and instructions on how to find local data.*
